What is striking about the large monument in memory of Paolo Bernardi is above all the way in which the theme of remembrance is treated. The theme is frequent in Certosa, but this work, along with the one dedicated to Maria Badini is among the most original.
In both, pain and loss are narrated by means of representation in classic clothing, bringing out the pain of the children and the tender emotional relationship with the remaining parent. In this work, however, are present small and minute details that anticipate the verismo style, such as trousers with leggings or shoes of the little girl, significant traces of a deep and persistent representation of what is natural, all Bolognese.
The sculptor is Carlo Berozzi (1808-1855).
