Tomb Caprile

Three white sculptures, representing the three Graces who have come down to visit the tomb of someone “who has done good and has decorated it with flowers”, as written in the epigraph, stand out against the niche’s walls, which are entirely covered with marble. The “beautiful death”, one of the most recurring architectural themes in Staglieno during the first quarter of the 20th century, regains its plastic force: the youth’s myth and regret are expressed by the female figures, whose dance has been represented with a language in tension between the stylization of the Art Deco and the style of the early 20th century. Since the second half of the 1910s the sculptor De Albertis started a process of simplification of the flower components and of the other parts that have been realized according to Leonardo Bistolfi’s style, which were typical of his former activity, in order to make the composition’s structure gradually more strong and geometrical.
