This monument has been made for the rich dealer Valente Celle. It is known as “The Eternal Drama” and represents the last try of the Life to escape Death’s ineluctable hug.
By emphasizing the contrast between the pretty girl’s sensuality who represents the Life and the strict indifference of the Death that claws at her, the sculptor has shown himself sensitive to the uneasiness that permeated the Europe during the 1880s and 1890s.
The sensuality is even more evident in the model that has been presented to the family Celle: in fact, it represents the naked young woman. At the moment of the bronze fusion, perhaps on the same customers’ demand, the sculptor hid the girl’s nudity by wrapping a drape around the lower part of her body.
