After successful tour around Europe (Italy, Spain, Scotland and Ireland), the exhibition Symbols is officially opened in Maribor, Slovenia.
“The world is surrounded by symbols. Nothing can be perceived sensually without colliding with the symbolic aura of things.”
With these beautiful words of Hermann Nitsch, at the opening ceremony of the exhibition in Maribor, Samuel Grajfoner, the author of the exhibition and the professor at the Faculty of Education, University of Maribor, welcomed the audience.
Before and after him, other eminent speakers have approached the microphone:
- Lidija Pliberšek, MSc - CEO of Funeral Services Maribor (Pogrebno podjetje Maribor) and president of ASCE,
- prof Dušan Zidar - Head of the Department of Fine Arts at the Faculty of Education, University of Maribor,
- Andrej Fištravec, Phd - Mayor of Maribor and
- Uroš Prikl - Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia.
After the festive welcoming speeches, visitors were invited to explore the exhibited works of art - the graphics, representing the interpretation of detected symbols in European cemeteries, which were all created by different international artists. Next to the exhibited graphics, the visitors could detect QR codes that when scanned by smartphones took the viewers to the music and dance Internet videos inspired by the exhibited graphic prints. So, the visitors of the exhibition with the help of various artistic elements and different media could learned about mystical world of symbols in the European cemeteries in a deeper and more meaningful way.
This is how on November 9th 2016, at Vetrinjski dvor, in Maribor a very successful, multidisciplinary exhibition, called Symbols was opened. The exhibition was organized by Funeral Services Maribor (Pogrebno podjetje Maribor) together with the Department of Fine Arts and the Faculty of Education, University of Maribor. This art show is a part of a much bigger international project also called Symbols.
