In 1966, Branko Volarić founded the Department of Forensic Medicine and Criminology at the Medical Faculty in Rijeka, and was its lifelong head of the department.
The work of the department became known worldwide through his professional effort and scientific cooperation with a number of similar institutions in European countries and international community due to his membership and managerial position within a number of international professional and scientific associations.
He received the award of the City of Rijeka for outstanding achievements in the field of forensic medicine in 1974.
